New California Employment-Related Laws Effective July 1, 2025

Below is a list of new California employment-related laws that go into effect on July 1, 2025:
1) MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES
Statewide: Minimum wage will increase from $16.00/hr to $16.50/hr, and the exempt employee salary threshold will increase to $68,640/year.
Local Cities: Certain cities throughout California have their own minimum wages as follows:
City of Los Angeles - $17.87/hr
Unincorporated LA County - $17.81
Pasadena - $18.04
Santa Monica - $17.81
West Hollywood - $19.65 for non-hotel workers; $20.22 for hotel workers
2) LA COUNTY FAIR WORKWEEK ORDINANCE
Retailers and grocers with 300+ global employees, and who operate in unincorporated LA County, must:
Provide 14-day advance schedules and good-faith schedule esteimates to employees;
Offer rest periods, predictability pay if schedules change significantly;
Prioritize current staff for extra shifts and maintain scheduling records.
3) INFERTILITY/IVF INSURANCE COVERAGE
Employers with 100+ employees are required to cover infertility diagnosis and treatment, including IVF, and explicitly include LGBTQ+ and single partents. Religious empoyers may be exempt.
